Station Update: WJCH 91.9FM - Joliet, IL

Written by Family Radio | Aug 14, 2026, 4:29:36 PM

A powerful lightning storm rolled through Joliet, Illinois, last night, causing significant damage to WJCH 91.9 FM in Joliet, IL, serving the Chicagoland area.

The lightning damaged all four power amplifiers in the station’s transmitter. We’re grateful that 91.9 FM remains on the air, but for now, the station is operating at only about 40% of its normal power. That means some listeners throughout the Chicagoland area may experience a weaker signal or difficulty receiving Family Radio.

Our engineering team is already working to make the necessary repairs, but restoring the transmitter to full power is expected to take some time.

We need your help.

Please pray for our engineering team as they work to restore the station to full power and that the repairs can be completed safely and quickly.

Unexpected repairs like these are an important reminder of what it takes to keep Family Radio on the air. As a fully listener-funded ministry, your faithful gifts help keep Family Radio broadcasting in communities like Joliet and across the country.

Thank you for standing with Family Radio and helping us continue sharing the hope of the Gospel in Joliet and beyond.
