The Witness of God the Father

Psalm 110:1-4 is a beautiful illustration of God the Father acknowledging God the Son’s deity and mission: “The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool. The LORD shall send the rod of thy strength out of Zion: rule thou in the midst of thine enemies. Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power, in the beauties of holiness from the womb of the morning: thou hast the dew of thy youth. The LORD hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.”

We also read in Hebrews 7:17, “For he testifieth, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.”

God the Father also has this to say in 1 John 5:9-11: “If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son. He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.”

Six times in these last three verses of 1 John, chapter 5, the same Greek word for “witness” or “record” is repeated, thus emphasizing the fact that the Gospel about the Person and Work of the Lord Jesus Christ, is for all people.
