Sharing the Gospel with Others

The big task for the Christian as he lives out his life in this world is to be a witness, or an “ambassador” for Christ. As 2 Corinthians 5:20 teaches, “Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.”

If one is to witness to others, however, he must know the Bible in order to be able to faithfully present the Truth of God’s Word. 1 Peter 3:15 instructs us, “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.”

Acts 26:22 clearly displays the motivation of the apostle Paul to testify to others of the grace of God: “Having therefore obtained help of God, I continue unto this day, witnessing both to small and great, saying none other things than those which the prophets and Moses did say should come.”

We also read about the witnessing of Peter and John and the reaction of the Jewish religious leader in Acts 4:12-13, “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. Now when they [the religious leaders] saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marveled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.”

May it be said of us, as it was of Peter and John of old, that we, too, have “been with Jesus,” through the study of, and obedience to, His blessed Word.
