Seeing The Son

Sep 12, 2016

In John 6:40, we read, “And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.”

The will of God is that everyone who sees His son spiritually, and believes on Him may have everlasting life.

How is it that one can see the Son? First of all, this seeing is contrasted by another type of seeing used earlier, in verse 36, when Christ tells the Pharisees that they see Him physically, but don’t believe.

The previous seeing involves observation, the latter seeing involves perception, or beholding.

The Son can only be perceived when He is revealed by the Father. Revelation of the Son, who is the Word of God, can only come by God’s merciful action. His will is that His son be revealed to His elect, so that those that God has chosen to save – will believe.

When the glorious light of the gospel shines brightly upon your dark and dreary soul, you will behold His glory and believe on Him that God has sent.

How wonderful is the mercy of God who gives the eyes the ability to behold the Son and in turn causes His people to believe on him!
