“That I may know Him, and the power of His resurrection . . .” (Philippians 3:10).
When we seek to know Jesus in a deeper and more intimate way, God graciously allows us to experience more of Christ’s resurrection power as we grow in Him each day. It is only in Christ that we can have this “exceeding greatness of His power” (Ephesians 1:19).
Remarkably, God gives us the amazing privilege of participating in Christ’s victorious resurrection as we are “Buried with Him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with Him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised Him from the dead” (Colossians 2:12). So when we are buried with Him, we are “dead indeed unto sin,” and when we are risen with Him, we are “alive unto God” (Romans 6:11).
Scripture teaches that resurrection power is both spiritually and physically real as our bodies “sown in corruption” will be “raised in incorruption” (I Corinthians 15:42), and “He that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you” (Romans 8:11).
It follows then, that if we are risen with Christ, that we should also “seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God” (Colossians 3:1). After all, He “hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus” (Ephesians 2:6).
While we sojourn through this life, may we reckon ourselves to be dead to sin and alive in Christ, because we are “married to another, even to Him who is raised from the dead” (Romans 7:4). And ultimately, all of us who know Christ and the power of His resurrection can look forward to joining every creature in heaven as we worship Him, “saying, Blessing, and honor, and glory, and power, be unto Him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever” (Revelation 5:13).
