The Immediacy of the Lord’s Work

He stood over her, and rebuked the fever; and it left her: and immediately she arose and ministered unto them.

Luke describe the healing of Peter’s mother-in-law as only a physician could . Her fever had been severe, he describes, but her healing by Jesus was remarkable. Peter’s wife probably witnessed her mother’s healing. Notice the immediacy of the Lord’s work. Normally, when people recover from a fever, they need time to fully recuperate. But here we read that “immediately she arose and ministered unto them”. Only the Lord can administer healing such as this.
The healing mercy of the Lord Jesus was always instantly effective. Dr. Luke records Him healing both a leper and a paralytic immediately. Later, we read that a woman who had suffered from a continual flow of blood for 12 years was healed immediately, and a little girl who was dead, “arose straightway”.
And when Jesus stood and spoke before His friend’s dead body in the tomb, Lazarus came forth. How effective is the healing of the Great Physician!
