The Husband and Wife Who Never Fought

Sep 16, 2016

A husband was bragging to a co-worker that, one full year now into his marriage, he and his wife had yet to have one cross word—not one argument.
The co-worker found that amazing and asked what their secret was. The man explained he and his wife made an agreement before they were married, that if they were ever mad or upset or angry with each other, instead of fighting and arguing, they would simply go for a walk.
Astonished, the co-worker asked, “And how’d that work for you guys?”
The man replied, “So far, we’ve lost 142 pounds.”

That actually sounds like maybe not too bad of an idea, but I think it’s worth pointing out, the Bible does not forbid being angry. What it does forbid—what it does say in Eph 4:26, is that we are to, quote, “sin not,” when we are angry. And the same verse also goes on to say, quote, “let not the sun go down upon your wrath.”
So, the Bible teaches it IS possible to be angry and yet not sin—but also, we are not to hold onto that anger—it needs to be let go by the end of each day.
And remember, do all things in love. 1 Cor. 16:14 says, quote, “Let all your things be done with charity”—so, that would mean, even when angry, everything you do and say must be done with love.
And also when angry, keep an eye out there on that sun—remember, it’s slowly setting, and counting down to when you are required to let go of your anger—only the love is to remain after that.
If you’re still angry at that point, take a walk.
