Hope In The Midst Of Fiery Trials

In order that we may be prepared when we encounter persecutions, we should accustom ourselves to such situations by meditating continually on the Cross of Jesus Christ. The Apostle’s (under inspiration) show to us that the Cross is useful by two arguments: that God thus tries our faith, and that we become partakers with Christ. We read about this in James 1:3, “Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience” and in 1 Peter 4:13 we find this statement, “But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy”.

In the first place, let us remember that the trial of our faith is most necessary, and that we ought to obey God willingly who provides for our salvation. However, the chief consolation is to be derived from a fellowship with Christ. It is a twofold joy – one part that we now enjoy in home, and the other being the full fruition of which the coming of Christ will bring to us. The first is mingled with grief and sorrow; the second is connected with exultation.
