Listen to the words found in Exodus 34:6, “And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth.”
If any of us has an appetite to our meat and drink, or a power to digest our food, it is the Lord that gives it. If we have power to move our tongue, our feet to walk, or any natural actions of our body, all is from the Lord, who is wonderful in working.
How patient is God with the drunkard, with the liar, the profane babbler, and with all sorts of sinners, who use their bodies to the profaning, abusing, and blaspheming of His holy Name, or in doing actions in the violation and contempt of His holy and righteous law.
Why do they go on despising the “riches of His goodness, and forbearance and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads them to repentance? But after the hardness and impenitence of their hearts, they treasure to themselves wrath against the day of wrath, and the revelation of the righteous judgment of God, who will render to each according to their deeds.” (Romans 2:3-5)
The Lord is not slack, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering towards us, not willing that anyone should perish, but that all should come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night.
