Righteousness is a magnificent attribute of God. It is an aspect of His basic nature.
The Bible is replete with references to God’s righteousness, such as in Psalm 11:7, “For the righteous LORD loveth righteousness. His countenance doth behold the upright.”
And Psalm 116:5 says, “Gracious is the LORD, and righteous, yea, our God is merciful.”
And Psalm 145:17 also informs us that, “The LORD is righteous in all his ways, and holy in all his works.”
Here we see that righteousness describes the very character of God and encompasses everything He says and does.
In fact, the Bible indicates that one of His names is Righteous, or Righteousness, as we find mentioned in the New Testament, in 1 John 2:1: “My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.”
